The Challenge

The Challenge
by Monica Sharpe

The challenge appeared different
Yesterday
It meant remembering
Today
And exploring
Tomorrow

While confronting the present
We stand securely
Today
To understand what happened
Yesterday

Understanding
What tomorrow will bring
We can live
Today
And consider the future

Yesterday
It had its place
Measurable by rich qualities
Defined by faith, knowledge, concern
A calm elasticity
For coping creatively

Today
Challenge, now faster
Nudging strong and hard
In constant beat
Burning no longer for
Yesterday

My Challenge...

Today it was to
stay sane
Yesterday it was to
not worry about tomarrow
Tomarrow will be of
forgetting about
yesterday.

And life does go on...
does it not ?

To get past the sadness
and look the future
straight in the face and
say
"bring it on"
you may scare me for a
moment
But I bet you
run screaming
first...

My Challenge...

To find the happeness that
was once so much a part of
ME.

To take the sadness that now
so often finds me alone and
frightened in the night
and
over come it
beat it down
laugh at it
become stronger for it
stronger inspite of it

sadness...

You make me cry
but with every tear
that flows from my eyes
every salty taste I get
of you...
I will fight you !

When you make me
sit
stare to the East
wait for the sun to rise
before I can sleep...
know this...
you will never beat me.

You have taken from me
many things
but you can not take
what I hold in my heart.

You can not have
what my soul holds close

You can not have my
momories
the pictures in which
my mind
holds on to
with love and trust

With the spirits of my life
around me...
you will never have me
totally.

I have but few people in
my life
that I can say are "real"
friends
With them and the love God
gives me
and the spirits of my family
gone
You have become the loser...

My Challenge...

To live each day as best
I can
as best
I know how...

and that my friend...
makes me the winner...

I believe you have succeeded in the challenge's life offered, my friend! Yes, life goes on and the best way to do it is one step at a time, even if we fall behind. With God's help and from the help and support we get from others, we can, and do move forward in this adventure we call life...do we not?
